Great way to start the season, however the Jets still give up way too many shots on goal which could hurt them against a better team.

I feel bad for ehlers but the little line was better without him.

Also no mention of Copp? He struggled badly all night and seems to have gotten pass here and on Twitter last night.

Agreed but to be fair if it was Tanev who struggled as much as Copp, you’d be the first to point that out and not put it on the line as a whole. Am I right?

And the stats back me up that Copp struggled more.

I’m trying a “don’t be mean” start to this season. I will only defend or praise until game 10 has ended

Whoa guys.....take it easy.....!

We just won our season opener in a convincing fashion, on the road, against what should be a tough divisional rival.

I'm happy !

Gents, hope everyone had a great summer!

Helly was great last night, nothing like a solid momentum changing save on the PK turning into a short-handed goal! Top line was absolutely fantastic!

I and apparently everyone else hated the Morrow/Myers pairing. I also did not like Ehlers on the 4th line, waste of his talent and skill. Give him the initial opportunity with the 2nd line before demoting him. That 4th line got caught twice running around their own zone, you need better defensive balance & Perreault gives you that. I don't understand why Mo would do that without trying it first in the pre-season, but I question a lot of Mo's decisions.

I agree, Tanev and Copp definitely struggled last night, I thought Lowry was good though.

Go Jets Go!

Definitely not one of TLC's better nights. That being said, it's hard to knock the two goals from the tandem of Lowry and Tanev. Agreed, Copp was not good last night. Not having home-ice advantage and preferred line matchups were a big part of that

The tandem of Myers and Morrow were also not great. Morrow in particular made a lot of mistakes. Myers got caught up ice once and seemed to fight the puck all night . To be fair though Trouba could have easily cost us three goals if not for Helle and Morrissey saving him....and he wasn't even mentioned by Peter.

Big star of the night....Kyle Connor.....and many more to come. As a late-round pick in my pool is going to pay off big time. Elias Petterson as a last round pick looking good as well. That kid has it all, speed, shot, incredible vision and passing skills. One to watch as he grows. First time I've drafted a Canuck since Pavel Bure.

Some serious progress suddenly. I'm impressed but if there were odds on you lasting 10 games they would be high. In the meantime, you can hopefully start becoming a Jets fan and see how it feels to be a cheerleader of the team instead of constantly criticizing their every move.

Poorly veiled insults. Typical.

In other news, it’s a lot easier to shut up and enjoy when I can actually watch how fun this team is

Ehlers/Rosy/Vesaleinen got a couple games together in pre-season and they were OK. Give them time and they can be a scoring threat, especially on home ice with last change.

I need more convincing that the Blues improved over 2017/18. I don't see them as a playoff team.

ROR is very comparable to Stasny, Maroon is not going to help team speed in a league that is getting faster, Perron isn't a huge upgrade over whoever he is replacing, there are a few aging vets and the truth is likely that Allen's ability is somewhere between how he has played lately and how he was so good one year ago.

While its hard to judge a team on one game, I'll admit that right now I might tend to agree with the assessment. I also don't like to see so many moves that toy with team chemistry and familiarity with a system. Blue have had so many personnel changes both on and off the ice that it's hard to imagine that they can play as a cohesive unit with the many new faces and under a new system that Yeo has got them using. I think they will challenge for a playoff spot but not much more.

That all being said they were not as horrible as the score might suggest. It was a close game until the Jets broke out in the third. A goal instead of a goalpost here or there and it could have been a different result.

O’Rielly was the best player to change teams this summer. He’s a quiet Bergeron clone with a dangerous Tim Horton’s fixation.

They basically replaced Berglund and Sobotka with Maroon and Perron, which is probably an improvement, then replaced the absent Stastny with a much better player

2.0 - I must have missed that line together in the pre-season, my bad. Yeah, home ice & last change would likely help. I would still prefer Ehlers to have that initial shot at 2nd line & get more ice time than MP. Offensive players thrive off of ice time and game flow, 10mins a night isn't enough for Ehlers (Mo also played them more at the end of game, which inflates TOI). I know its early, but in my mind, Mo always seems to take forever to adjust to the obvious - I probably need to be a little more patient with him... maybe lol

2.0 & jetsnation - I agree with the Blues assessment; too many moving pieces, hockey is a game of chemistry - takes time to build.

For whatever reason, the reply/quote function only seems to work once in awhile for me.

You realize it was a very even game until the third. A more even game than the final score indicated and more even game than the final shot count which favored the blues heavily 42-25. A few bounces changes the game. The Blues came within inches of scoring (granted didn't) only to have the Jets within seconds take it the other way and score. The first two goals happened this way if I'm remembering correctly.

I find your one game evaluation of the Blues team as whole pretty funny.

I am a ROR fan. Would love to have him on the Jets. Great on faceoffs too. However, I also don't think he's worth $7.5 MM / yr. More like $6 MM. He will get more points this year as top center on the Blues but still not worth that type of money.

Also, he was not the best player to change teams this summer. Not even close. That award goes to Erik Karsson. A close second would be Tavares. There were also guys like Van Reimsdyk, Statsny ,Pacioretty , that others would rank ahead of ROR. In my books I'd say he was third best with Statsny a very close fourth.

I completely forgot about Karlsson, and now hate myself.
ROR is still 2nd for me. He produces at a top line rate, while being an elite play driver and defensive forward. Stastny isn’t close to the level of the others, Patches and JVR are both one dimensional, and Tavares is a close 3rd.

Tavares is an A for offence, A for possession, and C for defence.
O’Rielly is a B- for offence, A for possession, and A+ for defence.

Ya Trouba has alot to show before he is worth what he has been asking. He had a hard night, but eh, the jets are STACKED!!!!! If a couple boys have an off night, they still put up 5 goals.

The truth must sting to have such an instant backlash like that. The Blues are not the force they were 3 years ago.

Nowhere in my post did I say that I was basing my evaluation of the Blues on last night's game. I talked about a few of the moves that were made and how I don't think they were significant steps forward - and some steps were arguably backward.

I thought Trouba looked good, but I’ve definitely seen a lot people disagree

My 2 adult sons and I are making our pilgrammage from atlanta to Winnipeg January 11-16. We have tickets for the Anaheim and Vegas games and the Moose games on the 12th and 14th. I am hoping to host an event near the MTS Centre before one of the games to meet some of the folks on this blog and other Jets fans.
I am about to buy my Moose tickets, but I have one question. It appears that the tickets on the end where the Moose shoot twice are less expensive than the defend twice end. Is this correct? The price is not important I just want to make sure I am sitting where I think I'm sitting.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
Needless to say, We are looking forward to being immersed in the MTS Centre experience.....

So, when you say your “2 adult sons”, do you mean your actual kids?
Because I often refer to Connor, Niku, Petan, and Dano as my adult sons. Enstrom and Backstrom are uncles, and I’m pretty sure I elected Byfuglien as the dad. It’s a weird family.

buy cheap seats and just move to better seats....no chance of it being a sellout.
